DESelect October ’20 Release: Status page, searchable dropdowns, and NULL values in dynamic custom values

Happy autumn everyone! Besides some big projects that we’ve been working on that will be released in the near future, DESelect is proud to announce several features that were requested by our users. We put a big emphasis on listening to customer feedback to continue improving our product.

Status page

We are announcing https://trust.deselect.com, where we will be sharing the status of the DESelect systems. If service degradations would occur, or a scheduled upgrade is happening, that will be announced here.

Searchable dropdowns

When you use the (Not) In Results filter, (the equivalent of a subquery in SQL), users had to drag and drop the data extension / data view they wanted to compare against from the Available Data Extensions section on the left. So for example, if you wanted to filter for subscribers who received an email in the last 30 days, you would create a filter for the email field, choose the In Results filter, then drag and drop the _Sent data view to this filter line. However, this was sometimes hard to do, depending on the user’s screen size and amount of filters.

This has been improved by making the (Not) In Results filter work with a searchable dropdown. Users can just search for the data view / data extension they want to use in a filtered dropdown.

Additionally, on the screen to manage picklists in the admin panel, the dropdowns for the data extension and field have also been made searchable, making it easier to find a specific data extension or field when there are many options.

NULL values in dynamic custom values

In DESelect you can create dynamic custom values, the equivalent of CASE/WHEN in SQL.

In this release, we’re adding the possibility to output NULL values whenever a criterion is met, or if none of the criteria is met.

For example, imagine a company active in Belgium and The Netherlands. Based on the country of a subscriber, they want to refer to their Dutch website (.nl) or the Belgian website (.be). If the subscriber is from another country, they want to leave the website field in the target data extension empty (null). This setup would look as follows:
